Design & export

PDF theme, ornaments, EPUB.

PDF theme

Design ships with curated theme presets, trade fiction, literary, romance, commercial, pulp/SFF, memoir, poetry. Each preset bundles a body face, display face, margins, leading, drop-cap style, header/footer treatment, and a scene-break ornament that fits the shelf.

Switch presets in one click; the manuscript reflows live. Tune any of them by opening the panel and changing individual settings, body size, indent depth, justified vs ragged-right, hyphenation, widow/orphan control. Save the result as a custom preset for your next book.

Ornaments

The ornaments library covers scene breaks, chapter-opening flourishes, and decorative dingbats: dingbat dingbats, simple horizontal rules, fleurons, asterisms, and a few illustrated options. You can also upload an SVG of your own, handy for a series mark.

Pick once and the ornament applies across the manuscript in any preset you switch to.

Book sections

Front matter (title page, copyright, dedication, epigraph, contents) and back matter (acknowledgements, also-by, author bio, request-a-review page) are auto-built from project metadata you've already filled in.

Edit any section by clicking into it. The typography for each section is preset-aware, copyright pages use small caps in the literary preset, mass-market type in the pulp preset, and so on.

PDF export

Thread ships a basic-quality PDF export, enough to read on paper or send to a beta reader. Spool and up unlock print-ready PDF: trim-size templates (5×8, 5.25×8, 5.5×8.5, 6×9, 7×10, custom), bleed if the cover has any, embedded fonts, and a final pre-flight pass that checks resolution and color space on any inline images.

Files export named cleanly: ProjectName-Interior-trim-date.pdf so a print-on-demand workflow doesn't get confused about which version is current.

EPUB export

Reflowable EPUB 3.2 with semantic markup (chapter, section, footnote roles), an embedded cover, and a generated nav.xhtml. Validated against epubcheck on export, if anything fails you'll see the failing rule with a link to the chapter or section that triggered it.

Available on Spool, Loom, and Tapestry. Inline images are downsampled appropriately for ereaders; full-resolution masters stay in the Media gallery for print.
