Withhold the full explanation, because the fear lives in what the story declines to complete. The entity should not be interested in the protagonist at all.

Explaining the entity converts cosmic horror into a monster story, where a threat can be fought. The genre's power comes from the opposite: a scale at which fighting is not a category that applies. Restraint is therefore structural rather than stylistic, and it is where most attempts fail.
Chapter ii·What to include
- An entity or phenomenon indifferent to human concerns.
- Knowledge as the vector of harm, not physical attack.
- Deliberate incompleteness: what the story will never explain.
- A narrator whose reliability degrades as they learn.
