50,000 words is the classic, but 10,000 or 25,000 is a real accomplishment too. Choose what fits your month. You can change it later.

Good to know.
Is it free?
Yes. Joining the challenge is free, and so is writing in WriteLoom. New accounts also get a 7-day trial of the paid tools, with no card required.
Is this NaNoWriMo?
No. The NaNoWriMo organization closed in 2025. Novel November is WriteLoom’s own free challenge in the same spirit: write a novel draft in a month.
What counts toward my goal?
Every word you add to a chapter in the WriteLoom editor during November. Days follow your own timezone, so writing at 11pm still counts for that day.
Do I have to write 50,000 words?
No. Pick any goal from 10,000 to 100,000 words when you join, and change it whenever you like. Finishing 15,000 words of a story is still 15,000 more than you had.
Can I join late?
Yes, you can join any time until November 30. Your pace adjusts to the days you have left.
What about the emails?
They’re optional and short: one each morning in November with your progress and a tip. Every email has a one-click link to stop them, and you stay in the challenge.
